EMPAQUETADA (2018)

Wearable textile sculptures

From an ongoing investigation on the politics of representation has emerged a body of work that explores the notion of identity as packaging. Empaquetada is a performance piece that presents large plastic structures containing bodies that are removed from the space they inhabit, while simultaneously disrupting and altering it. Anxiously and aimlessly evoking a sense of wanting to belong while embodying a delicate barrier of separation from the outside world.

This piece has been presented as a sculpture installation, as well as, a live performance at for the textile exhibition Returning to the Present at Espacio Mexico in Montreal, 2018.

The performance element of Empaquetada is the result of a workshop that investigates the performativity of the female body in the work space.
